I bought some of these Jus-Roll pain au chocolat at Christmas but didn't get round to cooking them as planned. Being the weekend, I thought it would be really nice to have some freshly baked pastries but I hadn't started any dough and was really hungry.

I was therefore really happy when I found these at the back of the fridge! I was a little dubious and so thought I would jazz them up a bit with some leftover orange candied peel.

The result was a really nice, fairly quick (20 minutes) orange pain au chocolat.

I was quite impressed with how easy this kit is to use. It comes with the pastry ready rolled and ready segmented into the 6 pieces, together with the sticks of chocolate for each pain au chocolat.

All you have to do is place the chocolate sticks at each end of the piece of dough and fold into the middle. This is where I added my candied orange peel. I finished by brushing the dough with milk and then baking for 15 minutes. All the instructions were on the pack.

The pain au chocolats are slightly heavier and dougher than shop bought but were still, flaky and flavoursome. I really liked the fact that there was a generous amount of chocolate in each pastry!

I am also entering this into Credit Crunch Munch which was started by Helen at Fuss Free Flavours but this month is being hosted by Camilla at Fab Food 4 All.

Credit Crunch Munch is about is all about saving money, whilst enjoying good food. I am hoping this entry counts as I was utilising some leftover candied peel.

What a good idea and great that you added some left over mixed peel. I have lots of bits like that in my baking cupboard that need using up and I have some puff pastry in the freezer which I could also use. I was reading about making your own dough for pain au chocolat in Jo Wheatley's book but I am not sure that is ever something I will get around to doing!
Thanks for entering One Ingredient Kate! xx
